Kiss of the Spider Woman tonight at the Baldwin. I have no idea how I'm going to react to this production. [livejournal.com profile] jebra is concerned I'm going to end up depressed and up half the night. I'm worried too, but the musical won a boatload of awards and I'm wondering if I should see it on those grounds alone. Not to mention we've already spend the money.

In knitting news, I finished my 4th Jayne Hat of 2012 on the way to work this morning.

In Nia news, my main teacher has come down with the flu. Jean will be substituting tomorrow morning. I set the alarm to get up and go to class but if Kiss bums me out, I may blow off going.

In con-going news, we were at Epic ConFusion last weekend. I spent some time at Bill Roper's table in the hucksters room and came away with a handful of CDs. Leslie Fish's Lock and Load is pretty good but the songs tend to make me feel a bit depressed. Roper told us we should get Play It With Moxie and he was so right. It's my favorite of the new music. Second place is Bedlam Bards' On the Drift, music inspired by Firefly and Serenity. I'm less impressed with their new album with Marc Gunn, Firefly Drinking Songs.

A few minutes ago I put down my yarn needle and scissors, having just finished the ninth of the nine hats in the current batch of Jayne Hats for the Austin Browncoats. This brings my 2011 Jayne Hat count to 46 -- I was aiming to misbehave for 52 hats this year. If more yarn arrives before the 15th of December, I think I'll be able to make my goal.

The scarf count is holding steady at 55 for the National World War II Museum, 3 for the Red Scarf Project, and 1 on the needles for a friend.

As for the Fancy Filigree Bookmark I'm supposed to be crocheting for a friend's Secret Sister, well, that's going with me to Knitting Club on Saturday. Hopefully there'll be someone there who can help me make sense of the pattern. I figured out how to make a Chubby Cluster, but Round 1's turn work 90 degrees and... defeated me. I have no idea where I'm supposed to stick my crochet hook after the turn.

Saturday's Nia may be interesting as well. The Detroit Nia teachers are being filmed for a video and the videographer is supposed to be at class again on Saturday. I met him two Tuesdays ago, when he filmed us for the first time. I thought I was dancing well that day, so I didn't mind being filmed, but I was very glad for what I was wearing as I thought I looked less tubby than usual. Amazing what wearing light sweatpants in my actual size does for my figure.

Saturday morning was Nia. Saturday afternoon and evening were a party with the Dorsai Irregulars.

Sunday was sleeping in (until 2:30 p.m.!) followed by laundry and the first two episodes of Blue Murder. It's new to me and if the first story is anything to go by, it isn't something I can watch while catching up on email and LJ/DW. I tried, and the sixth time I had to start the show over because I had no clue what was going on, I gave up and shut the lid on my laptop. I can, however, knit and watch at the same time. Consequently, I finished another scarf for the Knit Your Bit campaign and started one more.

Today, after lunch, I paid a visit to the post office and mailed six Jayne hats to the Austin Browncoats and three scarves to the National World War II Museum. When I returned I realized I've lost track of how many scarves and hats I've finished this year. I really need to come up with a scorecard or tally sheet.

It pays to clean off my desk every now and again. I just found the note where I recorded the number of hats I sent to the California Browncoats:
25 adult hats
 8 child-sized hats
1 non-standard adult-sized hat (black, dark grey, and light grey)

Yesterday, for the first time since we returned from Frankenmuth, I did laundry. As should be no surprise, this took most of the day.

Saturday was the FCB's Spring Concert. Getting ready for the performance, the performance itself, and then striking the stage took most of the day. The concert itself was good and the guest artist blew me away. Today at lunch Jebra pointed out the piece was from an opera, making the fact that I liked it even more unbelievable.

Saturday night, when we were finally done emptying the stage and packing the car, we walked over to the high school gymnasium to watch Farmington United Percussion Ensemble (FUPE) rehearse for Sunday's state competition. Today, after lunch, I learned FUPE took first place.

Friday night we had tickets to Stagecrafter's production of A Streetcar Named Desire. I didn't know anything about the storyline going in and spent more than half the show trying to figure out what the heck was going on. As I like mysteries, this wasn't grounds for complaint. Jebra said he knew enough of the plot to worry I'd leave the theater deep in the throws of depression, but that turned out not to be the problem. I was in a strange headspace when we left though, as Stella's homelife strongly reminded me of my adoptive family in terms of the smoking, the shouting, and the drinking. When we got back to the house, I had to watch a few episodes of Forensic Files to clear my head.

As far as crafts go, in the past week I finished another Jayne Hat, sent six off to the Austin Browncoats, completed a pair of fingerless mittens, and knit another rag rug for the animal shelter. No wonder my hands are sore. :-)
