In my most recent Drive-by Update I forgot to mention that I attended the February 12th meeting of the Black Sheep Knitting Guild. At the meeting I learned that there is a cast-on that matches Jeny's Surprisingly Stretch Bind-off http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php) and went to look for it this morning since the cast on edge of the chemo cap I finished at the FCB's Valentine Dinner Dance was tighter than I liked and I want to knit another hat using that pattern. Well, that lead to this video on youtube, which lead to discovering this post on the Curious Knitter. The post ends with

ADDENDUM #2, 10/4: A-HA! Confirmation that yes this does in fact exist in print. See Montse Stanley's Buttonhole Cast-On, p. 76, fig 2.37.

which made me curious about Montse Stanley and lead to yet another google search. I found a quick bio about her and the thing that caught my attention there was the existence of The Knitting Reference Library. The library was originally composed of three distinctive knitting collections: those of Montse Stanley, Richard Rutt and Jane Waller. The library appears to be split between two locations in England; the Winchester School of Art Library and the Hartley Library at the University of Southampton.

The only downside is that now I want to travel to England even more than I did previously.

I believe that Google has updated the street view of your neighborhood. I seem to recall that the last time I looked I couldn't find a door anywhere on your building.

Is this really your house? )

There are not enough hours in any one person's lifetime to explore the doubtlessly thousands of things I become curious about. This morning I discovered on my desk a misdirected mail advertisement for ModelExpo. I glanced at the photos of model ships and airplanes, but my fancy was much more aroused by the 1:12 scale model of a Doctor's Buggy. Probably because the upholstery caught my eye:

But the image that truly made me curious was this:

MS4016 Coffee Wagon

I wondered if it was some sort of strange gun or canon considering the trio of chimneys. Google lead me to an article about it in The Civil War Librarian. I'd never heard of Christian Commission before and nor knew about the work they did.

Until you got your package, I wasn't sure I had addressed it correctly. In an attempt to convince myself I hadn't made an error, I played around with google and google maps. This didn't make me feel much better as I don't know for sure what your neighborhood looks like and I couldn't identify any house numbers. I spent some time scrolling around and found this a few door down.
