Today's scrapbook page shows the highlights of the week. If you can't read the included screencap from AncestryDNA, my Ethnicity estimate reads:

Europe 100%
Ireland 37%
Europe West 20%
Europe East 14%
Scandinavia 14%
Great Britain 7%
Trace Regions 8%

I had 0 Shared Ancestor Hints, 0 Starred matches (whatever the heck those are), and 280 4th cousins or closer. Four people came up as possible second cousins, but I can't proceed further without (1) signing up for Ancestry.com (roughly $300/year for access to their World Wide Resources (or $200/year for US only), and (2) getting [livejournal.com profile] jebra get my genealogy software working again. It's been broken for two years and he hasn't gotten around to fixing it yet.

Scrapbook papers & elements from the kit The Best Is Yet To Come.

I would love to do that DNA/genealogy thing but I cringe at the thought of spending that much money on it. Maybe if I win the Lotto someday. Your results are really cool, though! Erin go bragh!

AncestryDNA was only $100 and I did it as a birthday present to myself. I would like to take the other two commercial DNA tests, particularly because it would give me access to their genetic databases and because that is what I have seen recommended for those trying to identify an unknown parent. I would love to know who my father is and I want to know if I have other half-siblings (besides the ones on my mother's side). And being me I would also like to know if he raped anyone else. I hope he wasn't a serial rapist but I don't think I would be shocked to learn my mother was not his only victim. I should Google the statistics as I don't know how common it is to have only one victim.

That's not a bad price, really.

My father had three sisters - there's a long, complicated story about it all but the upshot of it is, his mother left his father and took the girls with her, and left my father with his dad (the Klansman), who did a really effective job of completely turning my dad against his mother and sisters. By the time I came along, only one of Daddy's sisters was in contact with him. I'd be interested to know what happened to the other two, if they had kids, if I had cousins out there. *shrugs* I have so little family of origin left (three first cousins is all, on Mama's side).

My mental hugs to you. I know there's no comparison, but my dad was a bigot and an asshole; it's a hard thing to accept when your parent is ... less than shiny. *makes face* Good luck with your search.
