I didn't know about the Paris Attacks until early Sunday morning. jebra was off at Windycon so I was on my own over the weekend. I spent Saturday sleeping and, once I got up, crocheting cat beds for the rescue and watching the various things I'd recorded on the DVR. I didn't know about the attacks until I checked LJ and saw them mentioned. The entire thing saddens me and I spent the rest of the weekend concerned about my extended circle of friends and family. I don't believe anyone I know was in Paris at the time of the attacks but I know we distant cousins and shirt tail relatives who live in France, plus many of our friends have ties to the country. The whole thing upsets me and I spent the rest of the weekend meditating on what form a proper response should take. I never came up with anything. More war does not seem like a good answer. Pretending that it never happened doesn't sound wise either but I think I'm beginning to understand the Israelis whose response to a terrorist attack is to simply keep on living their lives.

On Sunday I went out long enough to deliver cat beds to New Beginnings Animal Rescue and hack a single portal (in other words, play Ingress). I would have done more but rather than charge overnight my tablet discharged to the point it wouldn't turn on. My phone has horrible GPS so rather than fight with it, I returned home.

I knocked off another three cat beds since Sunday but I think I'd better switch back to knitting for a while. The good thing about the cat beds is that they use an enormous amount of yarn (I'm using a size K crochet hook with between five and eight strands of yarn held together (basically the equivalent of super bulky yarn). I keep thinking I need to find out how much an average bed weighs. The beds are too large to put on my yarn scale, but the bathroom scale might work). Anyway, the good thing about the beds is that they use up a lot of yarn, the bad thing is that making them is hard on my hands and shoulders. Last night my shoulder hurt so much I had to get up in the middle of the night and take something to dull the pain.

I'm sorry to hear your shoulder is sore, but I'm very pleased with you making cat beds! What a lovely thing to do!

As for the reaction to Paris, I'm just sick of the over-reaction of our politicians and right wing-nuts. Beyond that, it seems the rest of the world is taking it in stride and moving forward with compassion and grace. Would that these people could do the same!
