[livejournal.com profile] jebra is in the shower, so I should have a few minutes before we head out to breakfast. We plan to walk to the nearby IHOP. So far we haven't driven anywhere since arriving. This is especially surprising because I'd expected [livejournal.com profile] jebra to spend his time visiting with area friends while I immersed myself in slashy goodness. Instead, he's decided to pretend to me at a Convention -- live on the spouse's schedule and spend much of his time alone with his computer and the things he wants to read.

While he's been being me, I've been off being him. As far as I've been able to ascertain, I've never met any of these women before (nor the four or five guys I've seen wandering through). I did know two of the women from LJ, and have spoken to both, and of course I knew of Flamingo from her archive, and I met her as well. I'm still looking for [livejournal.com profile] andeincascade, but have not had any luck discovering which of us fen she is. Perhaps most shocking is the number of people I've spoken with. I'm usually pretty quiet in a social setting and I think I said more yesterday than I do during a typical week. This may explain why I'm losing my voice. Or perhaps I just picked up an early case of ConFlu. Fortunately, I don't *feel* sick, which is good as I'm scheduled to work the Dealer's room this afternoon, I've promised Flamingo I'd stop at her table, and I want to take a closer look at the phenomenal amount of slash there's for sale. I'm used to cons having book sellers, but not like this. There is just so much to look at and I have no way of knowing in advance what'll be good or, more importantly, what'll appeal to me. And it's not like I can put into words what I want in a story. Although if it is long and contains a well-crafted mystery, that's a definite bonus. Oh, and a happy ending. Must have one of those.

One thing I've been wondering is what makes fen fen. I mean, is biological in its genesis? Partially genetic, maybe? Friday, when I was standing in the lobby waiting for my turn with the desk clerk, I began to notice the other people moving around me. I was able to spot a dozen or so women I was certain were here for the convention. I remarked that we all look alike. Not exactly identical, of course -- there's wide variation in height, weight, complexion, hair, and eye color. But over all, the majority of us seem to be between 30 and 60 years of age, we're women (mostly), and I'd guess that more than half of us can be said to be on the short and fat side. And we're all very nice people. Smart, often funny, and intelligent. I'd love us just for the last three, but having slash in common is what pulls us together.

On a different subject, last night I spent several hours watching fan vids. My goodness there are some talented vidders out there. The Starsky & Hutch vids appealed to me the most as of the shows vidded, it was the one with which I was most familiar. I'd never seen some of the shows featured, and in one case, had never even *heard* of it. (Inspector Rex)

And now, off to breakfast.

I wish you had been there too. I thought of you often, but I'm sure that's no consolation. I had such an excellent time though, I've already informed the spouse that I want to attend Sharecon in 2008. So perhaps we can meet up there?

I sure hope I can go next year. But it'll be my daughter's Freshman year in collage and I have a queasy feeling money may be in very short supply. Well, we'll see...

This was the best con I've ever had. I'm just blown away by what a great time I had. It seems almost magical -- I'm an extreme introvert and yet I actually talked to people. And went to Zebracon even though I'd never met *any* of the other attendees before.

I got to see some S&H vids at E.M.C.1 last month and its so cool
watching them on a big screen with S&H devotees. Isn't it a totally
different experience? Its great. Is Flamingo having a late night vid
show? I had the best time when she hosted a late night vid show,
Man I bet everyone is having so much fun and laughing their a****
off.

Best,
J.A.

Watching vids with other slashers was certainly an experience I'd love to repeat. The big screen was nice too -- prior to Z'con, all of my experience with vids was watching them on my computer monitor by myself. This was *so* much better.

I'm told the vid show went until 2:00 in the morning. I crapped out around midnight. I was tired and didn't want to risk missing stitch'n'bitch the next morning.

Stitch'n'bitch was small but fun. And the husband will be horrified that I now want to buy another crochet hook. I thought I had one of every size and kind out here, but that was until I saw the double crochet hook one of the stitch'n'bitchers was using. It produce such an interesting result -- panels that look like they've been knitted rather than crocheted.
