I'm not happy with what's going on behind the scenes here at LJ. [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121 getting banned for life due to her artwork has made me angry enough to start searching for alternatives. The main problem, as I see it, is that my friends are departing to a number of different locales and I fear I shall either lose touch with them or waste an enormous amount of time logging in to multiple journals and checking flists.

I think you'll be safe if you simply open mirror accounts on IJ and GJ. The reason for two is simply that GJ is known to have server issues and goes down frequently. No biggie, just make sure you have IJ as a backup. (erm, these are Insanejournal and GreatestJournal, respectively.) Then, use LJSec and LJArchive to quickly transfer your entire lj to both alternate journals as well as your harddrive (for comments/feedback, etc) and you're set!

Thanks, Eey. I now have accounts on IJ and GJ. Not mirrored yet, but hopefully I'll be able to figure that out later today.

This brings my total number of journals to four (LJ, IJ, GJ, and JF (JournalFen)). I'm mrs_sweetpeach on all of them.

I just made a post sort of detailing how to use the LJSec thingy, so hopefully it will help. There's links and stuff on it, so I hope it helps!

While the reaction of LJ on this issue could doubtless be better handled, I'm not at all surprised that they felt they had to do *something* after they'd been advised of the content.

Several people on my flist have mentioned this issue, so knowing nothing about it, I found a copy of the Snape/Potter artwork that seems to be at the centre of the fuss.

Dunno about the US, but I suspect that placing that image in a publicly viewable location would be very close to a criminal offence over here...especially given the inherent teacher/pupil context.
