Did you get to see a real woodpecker on your birthday? I know you do from time to time and I'm quite envious. I love woodpeckers. They look so prehistoric.

No, I did not get to see any woodpeckers. (I did see a yellow-shafted flicker though, that almost counts!) I was down in the "big" city on my bday, but now that I think about it, I have not seen or heard the pileated woodpecker since the beginning of August. Must not be outside enough. Maybe I will hear / see him while I work on the trailer today/tomorrow.

I know what you mean by prehistoric--I can imagine a large pileated woodpecker filling in for a pterodactyl!
