Drive-by update

We're back from our weekend of dashing hither and yon. It was great seeing my mom and helping her out. A few weeks ago she broke her foot while riding her motorcycle and was told to stay off it. She lives alone and isn't great with crutches, so she's fallen behind on housework. It felt good to be able to lend her a hand.

Sunday we had to get up early in time to attend Barb's "Life Celebration" -- she had cancer and while that was bad, it was the side-effects from the chemotherapy that nearly killed her. To celebrate her survival, she and her husband threw a party for friends and family.

I was telling Howard about my attempt to explain the party to one of the other customers.

"It's ... well ... it's a kind of ..."

Howard smiled and suggested, "It's not a wake!"

It was that. We're looking forward to the celebration continuing for many, many years.
