Yeah it is. What scares me is that I managed to accumulate all of it in only four years. I had to go back through my scrapbook to figure it out, but I didn't learn how to knit or crochet until 2006. Not that I'm an expert now, there are still *tons* of things to learn.

You sound like me when I used to work at Walmart in the craft department. I bought material and lace and thread and patterns then I bought a sewing machine. I taught myself how to sew. I never got great at it, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. I still have way too much cloth, lol.

I tried knitting and crocheting when I was a kid, but I never got the hang of it. I admire you doing it. :)

Man, I'd be *so* broke if I worked at a craft store or a store with a craft department!

I don't sew well and don't think I ever will. Physically it seems to be a lot harder on my body and when I sew tend to have my stuff spread over a very large space. Like the entire lunch room at work. I don't have that kind of space at home, which is why most of my sewing stuff has migrated to work. I fear the day he gets sick of seeing it and orders me to take it all home, as I have this horrible suspicion I have much more than one or two car loads of personal crap hiding in the various nooks & crannies around the building.

Yep, sure is. And it's going to take me a long time to use up.

And I *love* the penguin hug icon you used here. What a cutie!

That's a respectable amount of yarn! Spme gorgeous colours in there!

Thank you! And does any particular color appeal to you?

[identity profile] lolabobs.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the purples and the pinky purple and the teal! Purple is my favourite colour - what's yours ;)

I've been thinking about this for nearly a month and I STILL don't have an answer. I love color, especially strong and vibrant color. I love turquoise and teal and red and purple and sometimes green or blue or pink or yellow or...

It just may depend on my mood on any given day.

[identity profile] lolabobs.livejournal.com 2010-05-17 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
*It is hard to pick favourite colour isn't it - I say that purple is mine, but I love rich dark petrolly greens too, and blues and.. well everything but yellow!

Do you ever get to the point where you have a ball of gorgeous colour wool and just don't want to use it, just want to retain it? I fear my stock is going to grow and grow 'cos I can't bear to part with colours!

Well, as much as I love particular skeins and cakes, I think my major problem is that I don't think I knit (and/or crochet) well enough to risk a mishap and thus put off using my favorites for fear of wasting it. I'm not too concerned about my stash growing as I have (crosses fingers for luck) managed to talk myself out of buying more until I use up what I already own.

I have that same gray Alpaka wool-- 10 skeins of it. :) It was a good sale :)

I'm afraid to take pictures of my stash-- tho I have to admit that 4 of the 17 bins in my craft room are actually roving and unspun wool for the spinning wheel :)

I got mine off ebay. Where'd you get yours?

I think I'm jealous that you know how to spin and that you have a spinning wheel. On the other hand, I already have arthritis in my hands and not enough time...

[identity profile] mbcrui.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Elann.com and they don't have anymore, or I'd have a dark gray sweater :)

As for spinning and arthritis, spinning is easier on my hands than knitting is, it's also very meditative. (I have arthritis, too, hands, back and hips).

The time is a problem, tho. I don't sit down to spin very much anymore because it's a day killer. I start, intending to go an hour, and 6 hours later realize I'm stiff and sore and have a mile of new yarn... and haven't done anything else all day.

Maybe if I did it more, I could do an hour or two at a time, instead of getting sucked in and hypnotized...

I recognize some of those colors!

That is a boat load of yarn, babe. I want to learn to knit.

I wish you lived near me. I'd love to teach you and it'd be fun to hang out with you just on general principles.

[identity profile] siberian-skys.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I'd love to be taught. My grandmother, who had no patience, tried when I was a little kid. I wish she'd been more willing to give me a chance. She was great if I caught on quickly like I did with hook rugging and cross stitch, but not so much with the knitting and crotcheting.

[identity profile] mbcrui.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
If you live near me, I'll teach you. I've already promised to teach my niece this summer... I could do another class...

[identity profile] siberian-skys.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't, but thank you so much. It's so cool that you're going to teach your niece. I keep thinking I should get a book or maybe they have How TO DVDs now.
