That's so bright and cheery. and a nice little dieffenbachia too. Great for cleaning the air (as long as you don't accidentally get any in your mouth - very toxic!)

I'm not so sure about toxic. I was told that chewing it will result in a mouth (and tongue) full of silica -- which is why another name for the plant is "dumb cane." We have cats and another dieffenbachia at home, but fortunately for all of us, the cats have never showed any interest in it.

I believe it can cause swelling. Maybe that's if there is an allergic reaction. If so, it's a very nasty allergic reaction. My mother always had one because they're so good at cleaning the air, but made us stay away from it (and keep the kids she babysat away from it!

The dog always ignored it too. It's probably only harmful to very stupid creatures who happen to be allergic to it.
