I promised to make scarves for our two young nieces. Little did I know the yarn I said I'd use is no longer available. Not even on eBay. So I went shopping and bought a variety of yarn, as close to the requested color as I could get, and started knitting. I wasn't thrilled with any of the resulting scarves and went shopping again. This time I began combining different yarns, trying to come up with a better match. I now have seventeen scarves. I think I need psychiatric help.

Step one: Admited that I was powerless over knittin, and my scarves had become unmanagable... ;-)

Oh, gosh, that is hilarious! You will have to come over here sometime, eat with us at Marie Catrib's, and see how many projects I have going that are all the same...

Wow :)

I started knitting a scarf using merino wool yarn in colors gray and black. I've been just doing a simple k2, p2 row; p2 k2 row, etc but decided the scarf might end up too "stiff". Looking at yours, while I like the bias stitch ones, I know I wouldn't be able to keep track considering I only do a few rows a day and usually while I am watching TV (no, I can't concentrate on both). I've been wondering what else I could try and am now considering the moss stitch.

The gray yarn was originally used along with burgundy in a garter stitch scarf, but I'd made it too short & too wide (well, also a mouse had chewed a hole in part of the burgundy so I washed the scarf) & I just wasn't happy with it to begin with anyway so I took it apart (and am reusing the gray with black).

The bias is amazingly simple and coping with interruptions wasn't a problem. What I did was put two stitch markers on the edge that begins with k2tog. When I started stitching on that row, I knew I was supposed to knit two together, knit all the way across, and end with a kfb. (Then, turn, k all the way across, turn and repeat, repeat, repeat).

Pattern is here: http://shelbyknits.blogspot.com/2005/04/bias-scarf-pattern.html

I would love that. Where is here? Grand Rapids? If so, we should get together some weekend we're with my mom in Ionia.

They sure are. Lucky for me I go through phases where pink really appeals to me. And it doesn't hurt to know that the girls (and/or their mother) are really into dressing them in pink.

*grin* I must still be in denial, as I was thinking that they haven't become unmanageable, they still fit into that bucket on the second scrapbook page!

Maybe I can tackle it another time. I ended up trying the double moss stitch which so far looks ok. I have a whole pack of bobby pins to mark each row that makes it relatively easy for me to remember if I should start with 2 knits or 2 purls.
