A system upgrade has kept me off-line since Friday morning and I'm not 100% back yet. Hopefully my directories will be restored tomorrow and, with a little bit of luck, I'll be able to read email again.
Yep. Jebra brought my old desktop machine here to the office with us and started setting up the new machine (which was delivered here this past Wednesday) Friday night after the work day concluded. We stayed until 10:00 and came back the next morning. Other than a break for dinner and a movie (Dial M for Murder (in 3D)), we were here all day, not getting home until 5 am. Sunday I was up by 11:00 am but not only was a I too tired to think, my new computer was back in the shipping box. I didn't wake jebra until after 2 pm, which was barely enough time for him to put the new machine on my desk, take a quick shower and run out the door for dinner with Clark & mbumby and some show at The Ark. I stayed home where I mostly wandered around the house and wished I was awake enough to sort through our stuff and declutter the house before someone nominates us for an episode of Hoarders.
You poor thing. I hate being without my computer. Hate it when that happens. I feel so... disconnected. And I never even had computer access until 1997. How did I manage before then? :-)))
I've been on-line so long, I can no longer remember the details, although I do recall we originally hosted a BBS and added usenet feeds. After web browsers were invented I started spending more time on the internet and have been on more-or-less continuously since I joined LJ on 2004-04-13. Oddly, that was five years, five months, and five days ago. Frankly, it seems longer than that.
My new computer is still being customized by the dear spouse. He'd probably be done by now if (a) we didn't work full-time jobs and (b) my hard drives weren't so stuffed with files that he can't back them up all at once. He's been restoring two partitions a day, so if nothing goes wrong I should have everything back where it belongs by Monday. Then I get to sort out my data and create CDs of my photographs, scrapbook pages, and whatnot. Which is slow going if you're me as much of the time I'm too tired to decide which of three or four nearly identical photos is the best. Or if shots that contain stuff I want to remember but which are awful photos ought to be preserved.
