Called my mom to get the latest and learned that, contrary to what I thought, my nephew did not graduate from high school this past June. He dropped out of school back in January. This also means he can't join the Army as he needs either a HS diploma or a GED to qualify. Mom says he's waffling between going to alternative High School this fall or studying for his GED. She also says that as it now stands, his math skills are so poor he wouldn't pass the math section of the GED, let along the military's entrance exam.

Mom also revealed that his baby's mother is taking him to court for child support.

Next I called my sister-in-law to congratulate her on her grandmahood and to RSVP for the baby shower for the pregnant GF. She told me that she knew the other girl was pregnant and was telling folks my nephew was the baby's father, so the baby's existence wasn't a complete surprise. But they hadn't been told anything directly and weren't convinced he really was the father. DNA analysis was performed and they found out last Friday that he is the baby's father.

I can hardly wait for the next thrilling installment. (rolls eyes)

I read this DNA analysis was performed and they found out last Friday that he is the baby's father., in Maury Povich's voice: you are...the father.

My cousin, had sex with a slightly mentally retarded young woman in the CHURCH bathroom. Apparently, during that time, she had sex with several boys. After 4 separate DNA tests, it was determined that my cousin was the father. Hell the baby looks just like him. He stepped up and took responsibility. However, the baby's grandmother (the girl's mother), is ghetto fabulous and gives him such a hard time when he wants to see his son. I see Court in their future.

*grin* I was doing in the voice of one of the tv judges. Probably Judge Alex as I really like him, although DNA tests seem to be more popular on other judge shows. Not that I watch often (although heaven knows I would if I were home during the day).

Good for your cousin for stepping up. Bad on the baby's grandmother for interfering.

Reminds me of someone I once knew, whose honor student neice had sex with a mentally retarded boy with the express intent of getting pregnant. She knew that would prompt her mother to throw her out of the house, and once that happened, she'd be able to move in with her more stable and emotionally healthy aunt. Amazingly, the plan worked; she got pregnant, the baby came out fine, and she got to live in her Aunt's house.

Having been through something similar in the family, I can't say I'm that shocked. But what always DOES surprise me is that none of these kids seem to consider birth control. Sex? Fine, but at least protect yourself.... yikes.

I have a cousin who had five children by various girlfriends before he was out of his mid-twenties. Sigh.
