The year has started off in a positive direction. I met with my online crafting group Sunday morning for a couple of hours, then logged off to attend the Cold Read. Which was lots of fun, both in terms of seeing friends and in terms of enjoying the play. It also convinced me I really need to read Jane Austin's works one of these days. On the ride home we finished listening to Snobbery with Violence which was fun up until the highly unrealistic confrontation with the murderer. We were so disheartened by it I'm not certain we will continue with the series. I'm still plugging my way through The Ladies' Guide to Politeness and Correct Manners. The world has certainly changed since 1864 when the book was first published.

Yesterday I went to see my surgeon to get his opinion on my right hip. He looked a the x-rays and asked if I wanted temporary help or the cure. I voted for the cure and now I'm getting that hip replaced later this month. This is a very good thing as the pain with this hip is incredible, far worse than the left hip ever was. At some point I also get to investigate what form of arthritis I have as that may explain how my hip deteriorated so much in the four months since the first replacement.

After the doctor's visit I called my mom to tell her the news. She, too, is in incredible pain from her hips but she isn't healthy enough for surgery yet. I'm hoping she improves enough to have it. I'm also hoping to see her soon although I'm dreading the drive to and from her house. It hurts like crazy to get out of the car and start moving around after just an hour of riding and it's close to three hours to get to my mom's place. I'm so stubborn though, I'm likely just do it anyway.

No knitting projects were completed this week. I wanted to finish the Zick-Zack scarf but in spite of my best efforts I still have a few days of knitting in front of me.

Ouch on the hip. I hope everything works out. Also hope your mom starts feeling better. I know how you feel about being stubborn and just pushing through the pain.

Looks like you had fun at both groups though!

Ouch, I am sorry to hear about your hip. My hubby had both his knees replaced and it looks like his left hip is starting to give him trouble. Hope all goes well for you and your mum.
