After a considerable amount of internal debate, I convinced my body it wanted to get out of bed and get ready for a thrilling day of weeding and chipping the pile of brush littering my driveway. I had breakfast, checked my usual batch of websites (boing boing, LOL cats, and woot), and realized it seemed a little dark outside. "Well," I told myself, "it could be simply overcast." I rolled up the window shade for a closer look and saw drops of water on top of the air conditioner. I went out to the kitchen for a better look and that's when the rain *really* began to fall.

It could be worse though -- I could have been outside, having hauled everything I need out of the garage, when the rainstorm started.

We had just finished putting the rain gutters back on the church building when it cut loose. Of course, then we realized some of the rain wasn't getting in the gutters and I wound up on a ladder to see why. For the second time this week, I was wet clean through. It's funny, after a while you get so wet that you just stand there in the rain even when shelter is 5 feet away; the rain is warmer than if you started to dry off.

Absolutely. It's like swimming in cold water, after you've acclimated to the water. You don't feel cold until you get out.

I need to run errands today, and am also stymied by the heavy rain. (On the bright side, considering water rates this year, I haven't had to hook up my garden hose yet.)

You have a pile of brush littering your driveway? Have you been pruning, or did a tree fall?

It is, I'm sad to say, from [livejournal.com profile] jebra's pruning back in June. He cleared out much elderberry between the north side of the pond and the fence. I'll put a new scrapbook page up to show you what I mean.

Would it make you feel better if I confessed that when I bundled up the brush from the fallen tree last month, I included the branches I'd pruned from the privet hedge about a month earlier? Bundling up brush is a tedious task, and it's so easy to just sort of move it out of the way until later ... much later.

Honestly, I'd have felt better if we'd burned it. Alas, we don't spend as many evenings by the pond as we'd like, so our chimenae is seeing much use.
