I am completely worn out from the long Labor Day weekend. We went to work as usual on Thursday, then came home and started packing for our trip to Northern Michigan. We got to bed at a reasonable hour (at least by my standards) and got up fairly early. We bought a few groceries for

The folks were happy to see us and I was happy to see them too. This was the first time I've seen them this year.
We arrived at the lodge before dark and unpacked.

Saturday morning we four went out for breakfast and start the Virtual First Saturday event. As we knew the time would work for us, we (meaning

After that we went back to the lodge for a couple of hours. In the late afternoon

We spent most of Sunday at the lodge. I brought my copy of Good Omens to camp and we watched the first three episodes before going out for dinner. After dinner we returned and watched the last three. It's a fun series and I was happy we could share it with

We stayed through to the next morning, packed up, added some coolant to the engine, and started the long drive home. We made it about half way before the engine temperature climbed to an unsafe degree.

I arrived home in time to join the first Black Sheep Knitting Guild meeting of the year. It was a virtual one but it was great seeing more folks than I had all summer. And seeing the lovely things everyone created. I had a hell of a time staying awake though. The trip simply wore me out.

Today he tried to rent the lodge for Labor Day weekend 2021. Unfortunately for us, it was reserved yesterday by another party and they want it for two weeks with Labor Day in the middle. I don't know what he is going to do. I don't camp and hotels up there are hella expensive. He may decide that camping without me but being able to walk the bridge outweighs staying home with me.

Date: 2020-09-10 01:56 pm (UTC)It sounds as though you had a good time, though, and that was the point of the trip. We missed you, but I think we were better off staying home. Still not sure how we'd have managed sharing one bathroom with six people.... (especially as J has been in contact with *lots* of new people over the last week or so. He went to half a dozen stores last week and tried on shoes, went to the permitting office three times, Menards/Lowe's/HD three times, etc.)
It was a bummer to hear about the lodge for next year, although it may turn out to not be a problem -- I wouldn't be surprised if the Bridgewalk is cancelled next year. The state's been making noises about not allowing it for a couple of years, and while cancelling it for 2020 made all kinds of sense, I don't know if the Mackinaw area chamber of commerce will be able to convince the state that it's necessary. There are a couple of hotels in Cheyboygan that don't inflate their Labor Day rates quite as much as the Mackinaw hotels, and it's easy to do the Cheboygan Bridge Walk from there. :)
We didn't do a bridge walk - J went out kayaking with his coworkers, while I stayed home with my poison ivy.

Date: 2020-09-10 05:08 pm (UTC)I am hoping your poison ivy will clear up without more medical intervention. And I hope John will take the time to search for the basement phone's headset. I can't complain about him not keeping the handheld on the charger because I'm prone to getting the handset to answer a call and then putting it down wherever I am and forgetting to put it back on to charge. I "solved" this problem by letting both of the handsets in the living room die completely and only answering the kitchen phone when I'm standing in the kitchen. Sure doesn't help your situation in the basement.
Miss you!

Date: 2020-09-10 09:49 pm (UTC)I think that my best solution for the phone in the basement situation is to find the old corded phone that used to be down there and plug it back in again. As a bonus, it'll be closer to the workroom so that I'll be able to get to it on fewer rings....
Miss you too! (hug)
