Not sure how I feel about this

I read this article on backyard fights in the Washington Post, and don't know quite what to think. I'm particularly curious about what
wpadmirer thinks about it. I'm pretty much against violence but the rules here sound fairly reasonable and if it reduces gun violence and other forms of mayhem, well, that's a good thing, right?

However, I can see how it wouldn't work as well with women. They don't have the same response to being hit or hitting. It's not over until someone's lost an eye or most of their hair - and then it's really not over.
Personally, I think for the guys he's working with, it's probably a good thing. Anytime you can convince someone to not pick up a gun, or not to fight in the streets (which would result in arrest), you're working out a better solution.
Men like to feel even. Women like to win. (grin)
I would NEVER do this. These people have no idea how much damage you can do to another person in six minutes of punching.
