Project 52

Up until tonight, this was a pretty good week. Friday night, after work, we out to dinner at Berkley Coney Island, one of our favorite local restaurants.

Saturday morning we had breakfast with one of [livejournal.com profile] jebra's former band-mates, then the three of us went for a long walk at the zoo. The weather was great and the company even better. After our friend left for the airport, we headed to Canton for SEMGS. After the party broke up we headed home, playing Ingress the entire way.

Sunday we caught up on laundry and in the late afternoon, went to Costco to order two cakes. That done, we went out to dinner and played a bit of Ingress before returning home to finish the laundry and start getting ready for Monday.

Because it was our 30th Wedding Anniversary, I went to band practice with [livejournal.com profile] jebra and hung out while they practiced. Damien halted practice 15 minutes early so that we could celebrate our anniversary with the band and feed them cake. Assuming the band doesn't change the night the hold practice, the next time practice and our anniversary intersect will be on our 75th Anniversary.

We voted before heading to work. After work we had dinner at one of my favorite Thai places, then [livejournal.com profile] jebra took me to my guild meeting while he did some grocery shopping. The Guild held its annual Brown Bag auction and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I came home with a book and three skeins of yarn.

I exercised for an hour, took my shower and started getting ready for bed. Then I made the mistake of looking at the election returns. Now I'm distraught and very very worried for the future of my country.

I join you in your distraught state. It a clear statement that if you're not white and Christian you're not welcome here. Bigotry has now become federal policy.

I keep wondering what I need to do differently to make sure that the progress the country has made toward equality and justice isn't set back any further than what it was by the mere fact of Trump's election. I wish I were as rich as Trump thinks he is because there are so many organizations that are doing good work that I would like to support.

Yeah, I don't have any money either. But I have vowed to "not be silent, and to stand between any bully and someone vulnerable, and to use my whiteness for good." It's what I can do.

I started the evening practically euphoric because people had made pilgrimages to Rochester NY and were lining up to pay tribute to Susan B. Anthony.

And I watched the election routines. I was obsessively refreshing the AP map for Michigan, thinking, "This can't be happening, Washtenaw County hasn't reported its votes yet, Ann Arbor will save us..."

I'm physically in shock. I feel like I've had the flu.

We'll survive this, but I don't know how.

I had issues with HRC but I'm genuinely fearful of Trump and what he will do to the Supreme Court and what will happen to gay marriage, transgender rights, health care, unions, and the progress the country had made toward equality and fairness.

Women's right, the unemployment rate, the poverty rate, the death rate...

So help me, I've been rooting for Wall Street to push back against Trump's effect on their bottom line, and for the insurance companies to lobby hard to keep the ACA (which gave them millions of newe customers), and even for Congressional Republicans to be obstructive because Trump doesn't give them the respect they think they deserve.

First of all, Happy Anniversary! belatedly but sincerely meant. 30 years is a grand accomplishment!

Secondly, *hugs* to you, 'cuz I need them, too.
