Heat wave day

Got up at a bit after 10:00 and str and had coffee. Then showered and washed my hair. I put in the curl stuff that Dani recommended, and I think it looks pretty good.

I called the insurance company about the cottage insurance. She said she would have to call the underwriters and ask, and would call me back. No one has called.

I went to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's place, and we waited for Dani and John. The trip there was OK, the walking bits were very hot, but the bus and subways were nicely air conditioned.

Dani and John hit a lot of bad traffic and it was quite late when they got there. We went to the storage unit and put some of the stuff for them and stuff for [personal profile] mashfanficchick's father in the car, then drove to Great Neck. We couldn't get everything because it was too hot to be moving all the stuff around.

We dropped zer father's stuff off and then ate dinner at a pizza place. Then we headed home. We made a stop at J Mart for some stuff too.

They took me home and helped me in with all my stuff that had been in the car, the duffle bag, my pillow, my jacket, and a bag of stuff, plus my two 12 packs of sugar free Vernors.

Then I got on the computer and Teamed the FWiB.

Tomorrow RK is taking me to my doctor's appointment, Then I'm taking him out to eat. [personal profile] mashfanficchick is coming too.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Air conditioning.

3. Clean hair nicely curled.

4. Friends.

5. The Kid texted.

6. Bed soon.

Quiet day

Got up and had breakfast and coffee. My stevia has been turned rock hard by the humidity, so I had to get rid of it and use sugar.

I spent the day in family things. Cousin Ricky, Sue and Rick's oldest son, wants to rent the cottage for the summer, except for when we are using it. Cousin Laurie thinks it's a good idea, as does the Kid. I agree, but we haven't heard from John and Denise yet. Also there are two issues that need to be addressed first, straightening out the deed, and the question of would our insurance cover it is something happened.

So I spent a good chunk of the day going through papers to find anything from the insurance company. I sent when I found to Laurie, but haven't heard from her. But I threw out a lot of stuff, and bagged a lot of stuff, and my coffee table looks much better now.

I called the Kid to discuss it with her, and we decided to move the memorial service for Oldest Brother from this July to next July.

I texted [personal profile] mashfanficchick about having zer talk to zer lawyer about the deed issue, we'll see how that goes.

At 7:00 I Teamed the FWiB, and at 8:30 I called Middle Brother, who is fine. Then I ate dinner, and went and read.

Haven't heard back from RK about taking me to the doctor on Tuesday. I will text him tomorrow again if I don't hear.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Family.

3. The Kid.

4. Found some stuff while I was looking for the insurance stuff.

5. Air conditioning.

sliding tiles #2

I went in to the office on Friday, and with a fresh brain, was able to find a way to get the corner desk into the room where it was to go. The base of the section does not go all the way to the floor on all sides, so I was able to wrap it around the doorframe. Then I reassembled the desk, put the drawer keys back in the top drawer, and went on to vacuum where the desk had been. Then I emptied a file cabinet and cleared a space for a different filing cabinet and moved the maps that were in the wrong place and sorted out paint and measured all the boxes + things that I'd have to find storage for. Then left that sheet at the office. sigh.

Not that it makes that much difference at this point, as I probably won't be getting the shelves until next weekend. I don't want to have to take them out of the car other than at the office, and I have to haul Lily somewhere M-T-W next week. At least, that's the current schedule. I expect we'll still have rehearsal on Monday as it's indoors; but the T-W concerts are both outside in the Heat Advisory/Extreme Heat Alert areas (depending on the concert). The weather people tell us that it won't get below 70F until the wee hours of Thursday AM. Maybe. Friday night for sure!

The AC came on at 8:45 this morning. I have it set for 76. (Anything higher, and the cats get really lethargic and unhappy. No need to stress old cats more than necessary.)

Yesterday's Sousapalooza was fun. there were about 25 of us, more old (most of them older than me!) flute players than anything else. We played 8 different Sousa marches, all of which I had played before. Many of them (besides Stars and Stripes Forever) have been in a summer repertoire for one band or another. It was indoors, so we didn't have to worry about the heat. I really think that an event like this needs to be outside, but yesterday I was glad that it wasn't. It wasn't really a concert intended for an audience, just a bunch of people playing music together.

First day home

Got up for my meeting. Couldn't have breakfast or coffee due to the lack of milk or creamer, so after my shower, I dressed and went to the bagel shop for a bacon, egg, and cheese, and coffee.

Then I took the 28 bus to my meeting. There was a 5K walk going on on Francis Lewis and streets were blocked off, so the bus diverted, and dropped off at 32nd. It took me awhile and a few tries to figure out which direction to go for 35th, but i got there, and then to the church, just on time.

The meeting was very good, though smaller than usual. Only three of us went to the diner afterward. I didn't eat anything, but I had two iced coffees.

Then I took the 13 bus home. Put in a Shipt order first thing, then got on the Starsky and Hutch chat.

Chatted til a little after 7:00, then Teamed the FWiB. We talked for over an hour and a half, which was nice.

After we got off, I had dinner, and fed the pets.

Now after this I'm going to call the Kid.

We have bombed Iran. This is a very bad thing, and will lead to bad consequences I fear.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. My meetings and the people there.

Home again!

Finally. I am home.

Got up this morning and went to breakfast and had coffee. Then we went in the swimming pool and hpot tub for awhile.

Then [personal profile] mashfanficchick and I sat in the lobby with Theo while John had a meeting in the room by computer while Dani napped.

Finally we got back in the room, John and Dani went shopping and [personal profile] mashfanficchick and I sat with Theo.

They came back, we had lunch, and then [personal profile] mashfanficchick and I took Theo back to New York via mass transit.

We started with the hotel shuttle to the air port, then the air train to the New Jersey transit station. NJ Transit to Penn Station, and the subway from there.

Theo was not good, but he calmed down when we got back to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's apartment. I reclaimed my keys, which RK left there for me, and stayed for dinner, chicken teriyaki.

Then I Ubered home, and collected my mail. Everything was fine here. Oreo was happy to see me. He is cuddled up next to me now.

I Teamed the FWiB for a little while.

Then I went through the mail. The sympathy card from Mari S. finally arrived, apparently it got sent back to her, she put the apartment number on it and sent it back.

Also the check from the travel insurance for the trip I missed. Even though I put in for direct deposit. Grrrrr.

And now it is time for bed in my own bedroom and bed! With my own kitty cat!

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Home again.

3. Family.

4. Bed soon.

5. Air conditioning.

6. All my missing mail arrived finally.

competency raises its ugly head

called HandymanDan yesterday. We talked about what needed to be done, and what I could do ahead of time to make it easier on the day of the move. Before I called him, I sorted the list into "HD tasks" and "JR" tasks -- no need to have a guy and a handtruck to move bulky but light boxes down the steps, f'rex. So yesterday, after I talked to him, I did my office tasks, then went downstairs to disassemble and move the Steelcase corner desk. Well, theoretically. I got it disassembled, got the short bit moved into the space where it will go, got the long bit moved as well, but the corner bit will not fit through the door into the new space. I *thought* that all the doors downstairs were the same size, but they don't seem to be. I was tired and hot, though, so I left the corner bit in the large room and went home. I'll go back later today with a better brain and a working drill in case I do need to take the top off. (Only 70 in the basement, but very humid and no air movement. I did dig up a box fan, but I don't think it helped much.)

Then I need to vacuum where the desk was (o the bug carcasses!) and where the cabinets will go. And clear space in the Z+A room for another file cabinet. And empty the file cabinets so we can move them.

This weekend I need to ponder shelving for the election stuff. I guess a good place to start would be looking at what needs to go on the shelves, yes? I think I need at least two different sizes, one for voting booths and one for boxes of paper. While I'm at it, I should get the election shelf for the office - we're planning a shelf to hold the ballots and the notebooks all in one place. (then I can have the moving crew take the shelves downstairs....) And I should move the maps from behind the cabinet that's moving to the Z+A room. Hmm. Some sort of vertical map rack would be good in that space. Will mention that after the move is done.

And there's a funeral today that I think I'm going to skip. A former pastor passed late last week, and while she was a good pastor and a very nice lady, I didn't know her family well (they were all grown when she came to our church), and they won't miss me. (huh. she was younger than I thought.)

Back in Newark

Got up this morning at 8:00 and went with Dani and Winnie to the little store down the block from the motel for breakfast. I got coffee and a ham, egg, and cheese on an English muffin. It was very good.

Then we went to the beach for awhile, but then had to go back, wake up [personal profile] mashfanficchick and pack up to check out.

We did that and then went to the main part of town to a candy shop.

Then we took Winnie to camp. We left her off, and then stopped for a little bit at Raymond Beach where we wadded in the lake and had someone take our picture.

We stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant and had burritos. Then we started the drive back.

Eventually we reached New Jersey and got dinner at the Vince Lombardi Service Area. We got food at Pret a Manger.

We came back to the hotel and unloaded our stuff. I ate my sandwich, and then got my computer set up.

I teamed the FWiB, and then started here.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. My friends.

3. The beach.

4. Good food.

5. Bed soon.

6. Fun road trip.

Edited to add: Forgot to say I called Middle Brother. He is fine and having a good time.
