Rear Window

This evening we went to see Rear Window at the beautiful Redford Theatre. I love that place and it was really nice to see lots of folks came out to see the movie. The parking lot was almost full and I figure there were around 300 or 400 folk in the audience.

I'd never seen Rear Window before and didn't really know anything about it other than it was a Hitchcock movie. It was good and Grace Kelly was everything I'd ever heard.

That's one of my favorite movies! Wasn't Grace Kelly totally dreamy?! And Raymond Burr -- wow -- I was never able to watch another episode of Perry Mason or Ironsides after that without feeling nervous about him!

Looks like a great lineup of films at the Redford Theatre. I bet Steve Salaba would enjoy knowing about it (I'll send him a note). The Halloween line-up especially looks fun.

Oh, yay! That is one of my absolutely favorite movies -- one I'll watch over and over again no matter what. (It's my favorite Hitchock film -- yes, I like it even better than The Birds, depsite the presence of Rod Taylor!)

I'm stunned that you'd never seen Rear Window. It's one of my all time favorites, but I was raised on classic films. I'm so stoked that your first Rear Window experience was in a movie theater. That's awesome.

That is a great movie! Wonderful to think about it and remember how good it is.

I miss the Redford Theatre. It's less than 5 miles from where I grew up, so I saw a lot of great movies for the first time on the big screen there. The Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind. I thought it was so cool that they actually have someone there to play the organ during intermissions.

I love Rear Window, and would have loved to see it there!!!

I didn't know you grew up so near to the Redford. As for the theater organ, they still have accomplished players seated at the keys for a half hour before the show starts and during intermission. Last week's player played "Stairway to Heaven" among other things. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

It'd be no surprise if you knew how diligently I've avoided Hitchcock movies. I saw The Birds as kid (on tv) and when I was in college I went to see Psycho with my boyfriend. Psycho was pushing my limits and I was not at all pleased about how dark/late at night it was when the theater let out.

I'm a big chicken. I once told a friend that my tolerance for suspense and violence was about as great as his then eight-year-old daughter. We were talking about the scene with the wolves in Beauty and the Beast -- and it had frightened her and it had also frightened me. (And I was an adult at the time.)

It was a treat. I really didn't know anything about it going in, nothing about the characters or even what type of movie it was (adventure, mystery, whatever).

Another great Hitchcock movie is Vertigo. I'm not normally a fan of James Stewart, but I liked him in that movie.

The Lady Vanishes is one of his early movies, and it's... interesting to say the least. Certainly worth watching, but... strange. :-)))

Don't laugh, but I thought Psycho was a yawner. I think I'd heard too much about it by the time I finally saw it. Somehow, that was one of the few Hitchcock movies I didn't see early on. My mom raised me on classic movies. Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music were viewed every time they aired to the point I grew to loath the last two since they were pretty much aired yearly. Fortunately they didn't air Gone With The Wind very often back then.

I do get what you mean about The Birds. It's a terrible movie, but I'm reminded of it regularly when I cross the employee parking lot at work. The crows have taken over and they stare down at you like you're meant to be breakfast.

Have you seen North By Northwest? That's one of the best Hitchcock movies, imo. It's Carey Grant and Eve Marie Saint. It's not horror; it's a spy movie.

My (adoptive) mom's three favorite movies were Gone With the Wind, the Wizard of Oz, and Born Free. I have an aversion to all three -- although I did watch GWTW as an adult and didn't hate it. I can remember passing through the living room when The Sound of Music was on, but I wouldn't stick around for it either. I can't think of any movies I really loved as a kid. As a teenager I was into old mystery movies and spy flicks, not that any titles are coming to mind. Besides Topkapi. I'd love to see that again. And to see Rafifi, its brother movie.

I walk through the parking lot with my shoulder hunched staring at the sky waiting to get dive bombed. Cower is a good word for it. :-)

I love Born Free. I cry every time. I outgrew my loathing of the Wizard of Oz, especially after seeing Wicked live. If you ever get the chance to see Wicked, you really should. It was awesome.
