I've heard that said about the state flower before, but cranes being the state bird is new to me. Didn't we pick something boring like the Robin for our official state bird. (Goes off to check.... Yep, sure enough. The robin. I still wish we'd picked a bird that was special to Michigan, like the Kirtland's Warbler (Dendroica kirtlandii).)
The zoo was great. It was also considerably more crowded than I'm used to seeing. One of the workers told me that there were a great many people in from out-of-town, probably as a result of the Dream Cruise. As jebra said yesterday, I'm willing to put up with the inconvenience of the Cruise if it helps bring extra visitors to the zoo. I'm still surprised that we didn't have any trouble getting in or out of the zoo, seeing as it, like the Cruise, involves travel on Woodward Avenue.
As for downloading photos, I haven't even *looked* at our zoo shots yet. i was too busy amusing myself with the state flower. :-)
On a completely unrelated note, if you like German Chocolate cake, the Dairy Boy on Campbell and Catalpa has a German chocolate cake flavored custard that is amazingly tasty. We stopped to get some after our trip to the zoo and I'm very glad we did. The only problem is that it seems to be the flavor of the month and they might not have it again!
